Vertigo: The Causes And Treatment Options For It

If you often feel dizzy and experience sensations where everything is spinning, and if you feel like you cannot keep your balance, you might have vertigo. Vertigo is a common condition caused by problems in the inner ear. If you believe you have vertigo, here are several important things you should know.

The causes of vertigo

Feeling dizzy and out of balance is something that typically results from a problem with the inner ear, as mentioned before. The inner ear controls our balance and helps us understand our positioning in space. When you have vertigo, you typically develop small crystals inside the inner ear. These crystals interfere with the jobs of the inner ear, and this causes you to lose balance and experience the other symptoms of vertigo.

People can develop vertigo for many reasons, but people who have strokes are at a higher risk for developing this inner ear problem. Fortunately, many people can find relief from the symptoms of vertigo without having to undergo any type of surgical procedures.

Treatment options for vertigo

There are several good ways to treat vertigo, and the treatment is often referred to as vestibular rehabilitation. Vestibular is a word that refers to the inner ear, and rehabilitation refers to procedures used to help correct the problem.

One of the most common treatments for vertigo is a procedure known as the Epley maneuver. This is something performed by chiropractors or physical therapists, and the goal of it is to move the crystals out of the inner ear.

To do this, a doctor typically has the person lie down on their back with their head hanging off a table. This position often causes the vertigo symptoms to start occurring, and this is what is needed for this procedure. The doctor can then move the person's head in different manners to help reposition these trapped crystals. If successful, the vertigo can instantly go away.

Another form of treatment involves performing specific eye movements as a way of decreasing the way the nerves in the head and neck communicate with the inner parts of the ear. Some doctors also prescribe medication to help people with the symptoms.

If you are currently struggling with dizziness and believe you may have vertigo, a good first step to take is visiting a chiropractor. Chiropractors can treat this condition in a way that is natural, and you might find relief after just one visit to a chiropractor. You can also visit a vertigo rehab to learn more.

About Me

chiropractic care after having a baby

My pregnancies weren't as bad as some women experience, but after having my third baby, my back and hips were causing me a lot of pain. I had talked with my doctor and had a few exams and he suggested that I go and see a chiropractor. It turns out, when a woman's body carries a baby, things can easily become misaligned. Then, when the woman has to push that beautiful little being out of her tummy, more damage can occur. My chiropractor has helped me in so many ways. If you are experiencing the same issues, visit my blog.
